A medium to large deciduous tree in the white oak group, this oak typically reaches 60–80 feet in height. It produces large, oval-shaped acorns, the biggest among native oaks, with distinctive, deep, fringed cups that serve as a vital food source for wildlife. In autumn, its foliage turns a modest yellow-brown. Twigs may feature characteristic corky ridges or "wings." Perfect as a shade tree.
