This striking deciduous tree is named for its exceptionally large, oblong leaves (up to 24 inches long) that cluster at the branch tips, resembling an umbrella. It produces large, creamy white, bowl-shaped flowers, 6-10 inches across in spring after the leaves emerge. These blooms are followed by attractive, cone-like pink fruits that ripen in the fall, adding seasonal interest. Typically growing 15-30 feet tall, the Umbrella Magnolia has smooth, gray bark and an open, spreading crown.
