Stiff, upright, spiky foliage forms a prickly upright mound that is a little non-descript until the bloom starts. Then this plant becomes the focal point of the garden as flower spikes push above the foliage bearing loads of bright red, tubular flowers aloft from early summer to fall. More compact than older Red Hot Pokers, this selection is perfect for small spaces and containers.
Fertilize yearly with an organic fertilizer. Prefers well-drained soils. Prune off spent flower stalks to encourage more bloom. Cut back old foliage just above ground level in late winter.
