Wide, irregular canopy of narrow, oval, light green leaves will turn a bright yellow in the fall. The bark is shiny and yellow-grey with classic dark striping. Can be frequently found along streams and swamps in New England; but, would make a large, beautiful attraction in a shaded woodland garden.

Grows in full to partial sun. Thrives best in evenly moist soils. Loves the cool, rich, damp forests.
