This tree typically reaches 40–60 feet tall with a rounded to oval canopy. New growth—including leaves, petioles, twigs, flowers, fruit, and fall color—often emerges red or lightly flushed with red. Foliage is medium to dark green on the upper surface and gray-green beneath. ‘Brandywine’ is a seedless male selection that grows more slowly at first, reaching about 25 feet in 12 years and ultimately maturing to 35–50 feet. Its 3–5 lobed leaves are green above with a blue-gray bloom underneath, turning a vivid scarlet in fall that deepens to reddish-purple, offering more consistent and intense autumn color than typical species forms.
