Conventional mock oranges look fabulous in bloom but don't have much to offer beyond that - until Illuminati Sparks mockorange (Philadelphus coronarius). Its lustrous green foliage is dotted with cheery yellow variegation for appeal that lasts early spring, summer, and beyond. Makes a very nice cut stem for foliage filler, as well as adds color and texture to the landscape. Fragrant white flowers in early summer.

Illuminati Sparks mockorange will need little pruning - it blooms on old wood, so any pruning you do wish to do should be done after flowering. If you wish to fertilize, one application of a granular rose or garden fertilizer in early spring is sufficient.
